At Star-Schein Insurance Agency, we know that Medicare can feel overwhelming—but you don’t have to navigate it alone. Whether you're turning 65 or qualifying through disability, we're here to make the transition smooth and stress-free.

Who Qualifies for Medicare?

There are two primary ways U.S. residents become eligible for Medicare:

  1. Turning 65 (commonly called “aging in”)

  2. Receiving disability benefits for 24 months

The 4 Parts of Medicare

Most people are familiar with Medicare Parts A, B, and D—but there’s also Part C, which combines the others in a convenient way.

Part A – Hospital Insurance

  • Covers inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facilities, hospice, and some home health care.

  • Free for those who have worked at least 40 quarters (10 years); otherwise, there is a monthly premium to “buy in.”

Part B – Medical Insurance

  • Covers doctor visits, outpatient care, and preventive services.

  • Most beneficiaries pay a monthly premium, which can vary based on income and may be deducted from Social Security.

Part C – Medicare Advantage

  • Combines Parts A, B, and usually D into one plan.

  • Offered by private insurers and often includes extra benefits like dental, vision, hearing, fitness programs, and more.

  • Many offer $0 monthly premiums, though you must still pay your Part B premium.

Part D – Prescription Drug Coverage

  • Covers prescription medications.

  • Administered by private insurance companies.

  • Those with Original Medicare or a Medicare Supplement plan need to purchase a standalone Part D plan.

Avoiding Penalties

Failing to enroll in Parts B or D when first eligible can lead to lifetime financial penalties. It’s critical to understand your enrollment window and make informed choices early.

Why Consider a Medicare Supplement or Advantage Plan?

Private Medicare plans often come with valuable extras, including:

  • Health club memberships

  • Transportation to medical appointments

  • Over-the-counter drug benefits

  • Vision, dental, and hearing aid coverage

With so many companies competing for your attention, it’s easy to feel lost in the paperwork and marketing.
